How to stop your dogs from eating their own poo!!!
I happened upon this idea while at a local bookstore. I was having problems with my labs coming in from outside stinking and drooling and everything else that goes with the disgusting behavior of what is known as coprophagia-Poo-eating. So, I started by buying the real small little bottles of tenderizer, wetting the food down, and then pouring on 1-2 tsp of tenderizer over the top. The problem immediately seemed to settle down (although it does pick up in the winter for the poop-sicles). Anyway, this is definately the way to go to save a few dollars and not have to keep running to the store, buying them out of tenderizer. And, it does not contain MSG which is of added benefit. Who knows what that does to a doggie's tummy?

Papain for digestability
I decided to try adding 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of papain powder to dried beans that I was soaking, to see if it would improve the digestibility. My nutritionist used to recommend Indo, a meat tenderizer, for the same purpose, because of the papaya enzymes included. Once Indo changed their formulation, I thought I'd give this a try. I believe it's been very helpful, especially when soaking black beans. I see less of a positive effect soaking navy beans. I encourage others who give this a try to report in.What I do is rinse the beans, soak them in water to cover for 8 hours (at room temperature), into which I've added the papain powder. I then drain the beans and treat them as if I were sprouting them for a day or 2, in order to let more of the starches gradually convert to more digestible forms. Hope you find this helpful!

Came in a plastic bag that says 'papain powder' and that's about it. i used a teaspoon to marinade some tree rats for tree rat pie. seems to work, perhaps too well. meat turned into liver like texture, but it sure wasn't tough.
